Austria's Martin Koch was unbeatable in the qualifying phase to the first World Cup ski jumping event scheduled for this weekend in Sapporo. Koch achieved 120.5 meters and earned 114.9 points. Polish Stefan Hula came in second while the local hero, Shohei Tochimoto grabbed third place after landing 116.0 meters.
From among the prequalified athletes Thomas Morgenstern showed his grand shape yet again, blazing 132.0 meters and already giving a taste of another victory which seems to be just a matter of hours. Norway's Romoeren delivered 125.0 meters in his very own pursuit of excellence.
Bad luck knocked on the door of Finnish team with Arttu Lappi crashing his qualifying effort and falling out of the top-50. For a second chance Lappi will have to wait till Sunday.
