One of the dress rehearsals before the World Nordic Skiing Championships, which are scheduled for next year, has ended in a scandal. Burglars have plundered the hotel rooms of several FIS representatives as well as journalists from the German TV station ARD. Money, 5 laptop computers and a camera disappeared from 5 hotel rooms.
Let's hope that this type of thing won't happen again, as it's not the first time this season at a competition in the Czech Republic that someone's belongings have been stolen. Some Finnish coaches have also had valuables stolen from them at the events in Harrachov, including laptop computers with important data as well as wallets with their money.
These occurrences are casting a shadow on the Czechs as the hosts of next year's World Championships. They will, however, get another chance to compensate for these setbacks (by reinforcing security at hotels) as soon as this week, when Liberec will be presenting the World Cup in nordic combined and cross-country skiing.
As for the World Championships in 2013, which are planned to take place in Zakopane, we might add that this type of situation would not be likely to happen - Hotel "Zakopane", where the athletes usually stay at the events, is closed to other guests at that time. Not even journalists accredited by the organizers are allowed access...
