Zakopane was drenched in the early afternoon sunlight, and its most famous Krupowki street was overflowing with crowds of fans marching towards the Wielka Krokiew ski jumping hill. A kaleidoscope of colors and a cacophony of sounds filled the air, as did the smell of roasted meat and traditional smoked oscypek cheese. You could hear the sound of bells on horse-drawn sleighs, the omnipresent, deafening trumpets, and pouring in from all around were the white-and-red clad enthusiasts, because this is a Polish festivity after all, a great sports celebration, even though it was taking place with a tragic shadow cast over it...once again.
Hotel Sabala was hosting the Viessmann Press Forum, and that's where the editors of our website met up with the winner of the Comment of the Year sweepstakes. The victorious contestant is nicknamed Walther, and his comments exuded an outstanding maturity and an air of effortlessness, which are traits that can be attributed to very few critics and sports observers in Poland as well as the world.
The meeting took place on Friday afternoon, right before the first World Cup competition in Zakopane, and this was also when the prize was awarded. Two tickets for Saturday's competition as well as some gadgets from the Viessmann company, which supported our cause, were bestowed upon the winner by the Swedish jumper Andreas Aren along with Magdalena Kobus and Tomasz Adamczyk.
The fancy surroundings of the Sabala restaurant were a good place to have a chat over a small snack. We had the chance to talk about ski jumping and its future as a sport, as well as the atmosphere in Zakopane or who was likely to win the events. After exchanging opinions and conducting a small photo shoot (which took longer than we had anticipated, as many people were interested in posing for the pictures, including hotel guests), our meeting with the winner had come to an end.
Therefore, we cordially invite you to have a look at our mini-gallery, at the same time congratulating the victor once again and sending out a big thank you to the personnel at Hotel Sabala, and above all the company of Viessmann for their cooperation. Special thanks also go out to Dorota Stachura, who is the mind behind the whole concept and the coordinator of the sweepstakes.
